        Most songs have verses which basically narrate the content or story, and a chorus (a verse which is occasionally repeated) which states the theme of the song.  It is very helpful if corresponding lines in each verse are even in meter ( have the same number of syllables). Sometimes it helps just to hastily jot down whatever emerges in a moment of inspiration, and then adjust the meter and rhyme .
